Swedish Foreign Minister supports Goldstone.

After the recent blood libel published in Swedish tabloid Aftonbladets why am I not surprised at this story in today’s Jerusalem Post.

Sweden supports Goldstone report

Sweden supports the Goldstone Commission’s report into Operation Cast Lead, the country’s foreign minister, Carl Bildt, said Thursday.

No real surprise there, remember Bildt at the time of the blood libel refused to condemn the series of lies published in the tabloid on the grounds of freedom of speech.

Bildt told reporters in Stockholm that South African judge Richard Goldstone was a person with “high credibility” and “high integrity” and that his report carries weight. He said the probe, which alleged that both Israel and Hamas committed war crimes during last winter’s Israel offensive against Gaza, is worthy of consideration.

Goldstone might have had credibility before he drank the kool-aid but as Elder of Ziyon has shown in a series of posts, Goldstone has no problem with ignoring evidence and publishing lies as truths.

An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman called Bildt’s remarks “disappointing,” and said they demonstrated his “lack of reading comprehension skills,” since anyone who read the report would know that it was biased.

Disappointing is a bit of an understatement, but I guess in diplomatic speak it’s quite substantial.

Solana to UN Security Council – Impose a two state solution

Solana It would seem that everybody has an opinion where Israel/Palestine is concerned. Since the demise of the iron curtain the Americans, Europeans, Russians, United Nations, Saudis, Egyptians, Jordanians, Syrians, Iranians, French, Norwegians and countless others have all given their two shekels worth of advice.

For weeks we have had Obama and his administration being such good friends to Israel by actively telling us what we can and can’t do with regards to settlements, as opposed to keeping schtum on the murderous intentions of the theocratic thugs who rule Iran with an iron fist. Then, according to Haaretz, we had France’s foreign minister Bernard Kouchner, speaking in Lebanon over this weekend, warning Israel that:

The United States has given Israel a six-month deadline to accede to its demand to freeze all construction in West Bank settlements,

Notice here how Israel gets warned on settlement activity whilst Obama is more or less silent, like Kouchner, on Iran’s nuclear ambitions or even North Korea’s recent missile tests.

Now it would seem that the European Union is jumping in on the act. Addressing in London this weekend at a conference EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, aiming his comments directly at the United Nations Security Council, said:

“After a fixed deadline, a U.N. Security Council resolution should proclaim the adoption of the two-state solution,” Solana said, adding this should include border parameters, refugees, control over the city of Jerusalem and security arrangements.

“It would accept the Palestinian state as a full member of the U.N., and set a calendar for implementation. It would mandate the resolution of other remaining territorial disputes and legitimise the end of claims,” Solana went on.

Advocating a return to Israel’s borders before the 1967 war with Egypt, Syria and Jordan in which it took the West Bank, Solana said mediators should set a timetable for a peace agreement.

“If the parties are not able to stick to it (the timetable), then a solution backed by the international community should be put on the table,” he said.

Solana’s premise here is that after so many years of inaction in the creation of a (2nd) Palestinian State that the international community should enforce a solution on both parties. The problem is that by doing so it totally legitimises the constant inaction by the Palestinians over the past 15 years.

Israel has repeatedly put options on the table to bring an end to the current situation – from Camp David to Taba to the unilateral disengagement from Gaza, Israel has constantly strived to negotiate a settlement. Solana’s comments do nothing more than confirm to the Palestinian leadership and their backers, that by continuing a campaign of inaction with regards to the peace process that the Palestinians will get every think they want.

Furthermore Solana’s claiming that borders should be set as per 1967 further pushes that message home. He has totally negated that the UNSCR 242 that brought an end to the Six Day War calls on:

Withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict;

Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgement of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force;

Solana, like Kouchner and Obama, seem to believe that they only solution for the Israel/Palestine conflict is to entirely ignore the previous 42 years. He seems to imply that turning back the clock to 67 borders will automatically bring stability to the region.

But should the international community back his plans they would be rubber stamping the death of Israel – for they would be ignoring the key elements of 242 which calls for Israel’s neighbours to accept its sovereignty whilst creating another Palestinian state who’s main purpose is the destruction of Israel.

Some thoughts on some recent elections.

Like many in Europe, and especially in the UK, last night I waited as results from across the 27 nation states of the EU were counted.

A couple of observations:

1. As mentioned a few days ago (here) the French Anti-Zionist group, led by Dieudonne Mbala Mbala, fielding candidates in the elections – unfortunately for them it would seem that all they could muster was 1.3% of the vote, thus failing to elect their leader to the European Parliament. (Source – AFP)

2. Within the UK, the Labour Party was beaten into third place by UKIP, whilst the BNP has secured two seats in the EU.

3. In Hungary Jobbik MagyarországĂ©rt Mozgalom (or Jobbik for short), a right wing nationalist party, has secured 3 out of 22 seats in the EU. One of its candidates, Krisztina Morvai, was quoted as saying a few days ago, “I would be glad if the so-called proud Hungarian Jews would go back to playing with their tiny little circumcised tail rather than vilifying me.”

4. In The Netherlands Partij voor de Vrijheid, a right wing party led by Geert Wilders managed to win 4 out of 25 mandates.

As Europe decisively moves to the right, centre and far, all eyes are now firmly focused on the UK, as Prime Minister Gordon Brown is fighting for his political life after an abysmal showing in both European and Local elections.

Browns problems were compounded by the campaign led by the Daily Telegraph to expose the worst aspects of political pilfering in the guise of the ‘expenses scandal’.

Pressure has been on the Prime Minister since he took over the leadership of his party in 2007. Not a week has gone by without hearing a Tory claim that seeing as Brown was not elected as PM he should go directly to the country, a convenient position considering their last PM (John Major) inherited the position after they forced the formidable Margaret Thatcher into early retirement. Also its should be noted that in the UK there are no direct elections for Prime Minister, so to claim that he’s not been elected as such is non starter.

Brown needs to do one of two things immediately; either force his party to back him or resign. There is absolutely no need for an election now, the UK must go to the polls next year anyhow, and whilst things might look bleak for the Labour Party, the Conservatives are not doing any better, and whilst their result in the EU elections certainly look promising for a win in the general next year, the one thing that could totally ruin any opportunity for them is UKIP.

Last night, being interviewed after winning his seat, Nigel Farage leader of UKIP, when questioned as to whether his party would field candidates in the general election next year, stated that they already have 300 prospective candidates lined up. One thing is clear, looking at the figures from last nights results, if UKIP stand in the election next year, the only vote they will continue to take is the Tory one – so, maybe a light at then end of the tunnel for Labour after all.

Are French anti-zionists heading for Strasbourg?

liste-antisioniste

I’m a great believer in the democratic process. Ever since I was legally allowed to vote I have done so, in every general, local and European elections, as well as Israeli elections when I was in the country.

This year Europe, that’s all 27 nation states, are heading for the polls between the 4th and 7th of June. Naturally, as a British resident, I have been following the run up to the elections here, specifically the rise of the British National Party (BNP).

By some strange quirk, that has more to do with disillusionment with the major parties than agreement with their policies, there is a very real chance that the BNP not only could win some seats in the European Parliament but they could also make gains in local elections being held at the same time.

But Britain isn’t the only country that has that a bunch of fascists standing in the election.

Over the channel in France it seems that Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder and leader of Front National, has some serious competition in the guise of a new party established to field candidates in this weeks elections.

Liste Antisioniste, translated literally, is a party set up by Dieudonne Mbala Mbala. who describes himself as a comedian, actor and revolutionary, and has made that strange transition from being an anti-racist to having Le Pen be god-father to his third child.

Mbala has courted much controversy in recent times, not just in France but also in Canada.

What is slightly worrying about Mbala, more so than Le Pen, is that he has built Liste Antisioniste as a coalition between both far left and far right activists, 911 conspiracy theorists and Islamists – their one commonality, they all seem to subscribe to the Mearsheimer & Walt theory (albeit with a French twist) that the Jews Zionists, control everything.

Considering that the voting system for elections to the European Parliament is proportional representation there is a strong possibility that Mbala might find himself in Strasbourg, especially as a recent poll, carried out between 25th and 26th May has Liste Antisioniste on 4% of the vote, while the threshold for seats is 5%.

Whilst polls are notoriously unreliable, just think back to the UK election of 1992, the fact that a party with a specific remit of being anti-zionist looks like its on the threshold of gaining a seat in the EU does not bode well for Frances Jewish community.
